The Pros and Cons of Archeage: Leveling and Classes

November 21, 2014 3 comments

I’m back from sleepless nights, and a good portion of the first chapter of my dissertation is completed. Real life, amirite?

So now to get on schedule!

It is my goal to talk honestly about the flaws and strengths of Archeage, review it a bit, and talk about my experiences in it.  I plan to release 5 articles on Crafting and Travel, Housing and PvP, Leveling and Classes (today’s), The Endgame Gear Grind, and the Trial System and Game Infrastructure.

Note that everything I say is a matter of opinion. The solutions I offer are merely the perspectives of a gamer with a scientific background in programming, but by no means am I a developer who knows what it would take to implement any of it. I simply believe in presenting problems with solutions, rather than just focusing on the negative.

Today’s topics are the leveling process and what I thought about it, as well as a discussion of the class system.

Just like my previous posts on the Prologue in the 1-10 Starter Planets and the Capital Planets, I want to continue to analyze and rank the stories in SWTOR by its natural divisions. Each story has the Prologue and three Chapters. Today, we will look at Chapter One.

I will give my ranking first, then I will fully explain my position with potential spoilers, so if you just want to see what I think, don’t go past the big spoiler text. Feel free to comment on all of the rankings and provide your own if you want! Be sure to add your reasoning as well! Also stay tuned for more rankings of the additional parts, as well as the ultimate story ranking at the end! Which class will win?

Here is my ranking. They are also links in case you only want to read my analysis of certain classes. Be careful while scrolling!

  1. Agent – 10/10
  2. Trooper – 9/10
  3. Inquisitor – 9/10
  4. Bounty Hunter – 9/10
  5. Smuggler – 9/10
  6. Consular – 8/10
  7. Warrior – 7/10
  8. Knight – 7/10

Did Bioware Back Themselves Into A Corner?

Story is Bioware’s fourth pillar in Star Wars: The Old Republic. They have spent possibly millions of dollars on voice acting alone. Almost every single quest in the entire game is voice-acted, and in fact, they literally hold the world record for voice-over content. What does that mean when it comes to putting out future content? Today I want to talk about the question that burns in all of our minds: did Bioware make a mistake in going fully voice-acted?

I love Massively.com and their podcast Massively Speaking, but I had to reply to their constant negativity on SWTOR. Hit the jump for my response in their comment section. Read more…

Still no Rakghouls…that will change next time…

Last time, I wrote about the stories on the starting planets and how I liked them. This week, I will look at the second half of the Prologue on the capital worlds, Coruscant and Dromund Kaas. Next time, I will talk about Chapter 1!
