Attacks, Damage, Buffs, and Debuffs in SWTOR
UPDATED: 12/29/14 for Update 3.0.1
With Update 3.0 came a lot of combat changes, and I have been wanting to write a post on Attack Types and Damage Types for about 3 years now (I know, lazy). Here are some of the most recent changes, along with the Attack and Damage Types for reference, so people can more effectively create Ops groups and Ranked PvP teams.

SWTOR Season 2: Comparing to S1 and my last article
Season Two is starting to wind down, rewards have been announced, and everyone is a bit…meh about them. It isn’t that the rewards are bad…actually, never mind, the rewards are bad. But let’s look at the season as a whole, compare it to Season One, and then see how they improved upon the things I talked about in my last article. Read more…
Valor Ranks Complete List
It all started a few days ago when Russ Moody (@Manciferous) asked me on Twitter:
@Geldarion How many valor points does Warlord require, and roughly how many warzones does that equate to?
— Russ Moody (@Manciferous) October 31, 2013
I answered about 1000 warzones, but the truth was, I was estimating. I couldn’t know, as there was no complete list of Valor ranks anywhere to be found on the internet!
This will no longer be true. I painstakingly went around the fleets and inspected as many people as it took to find out how many points each rank takes to achieve. Without further ado, here are my findings. Read more…
Gunslingers in 2.4
Let me preface this with the statement that I have been writing PvP articles about Update 2.4…they just aren’t on this site. For my PvP articles, head to Corellian Run Radio to read them. I have one that is a general arena overview, one about meta-strategies in arenas, and one on the focus target system, which is applicable to warzones as well as arenas.
So for PvP, I like to give Corellian Run precedence on those articles, since I write a PvP column. But Gunslingers are mine. So here we go!
First off, there were no changes to the Gunslinger class at all. So the basic tenets I set forth in my Gunslinger Advanced Class Guide and the subsequent articles on the Saboteur, Sharpshooter, and Dirty Fighting trees are all still relevant.
But let’s talk arenas. First off, I will describe my experience in arenas overall. Read more…
Bioware Needs to Be Cautious
Recently there was a post by Bioware Lead Designer Bruce Maclean (who unfortunately seems to be my favorite punching bag). It said a lot of stuff about events and such, but the final paragraph read as follows:
Game Update 2.4 is also in the pipe and being worked on for an October release. Even though our mantra is smaller more frequent patches this particular update is shaping up to be very big, with tons of new content and big PvP updates especially targeting Ranked play. We’ll start sharing details next month. If you absolutely *have* to glimpse the potential future, enter a Force trance and focus on these key phrases. Oricon. Warzone Arenas. Dread Masters.
Now, I look at this and the first thing I think is “Warzone Arenas?!?! AWESOME!!!”
The second thing I think is “what the heck do Oricon and Dread Masters have to do with PvP?” Read more…
