Making a Metalsmith: Starting crafting from scratch on a level 65

June 13, 2011 1 comment

My captain Ardaheru was my fifth level 65. He was also my 8th character, created after the LOTRO Store came out and character slots were available for purchase. He quickly became one of my favorite classes and characters, partly because of his playstyle and group dynamics, and partly because of the idea I had in my head of a captain from A Casual Stroll to Mordor’s Captain Roundtable.

Since he was my 8th character, and I have been obsessed with crafting since the beginning of my journey in Middle-Earth, Ardaheru became an Explorer, with no primary craft, as I had a guild kindred crafter in every craft already. As Ardaheru climbed the levels, he eventually gained supreme level prospecting and forestry, funneling plenty of materials to my other crafters. Read more…

Getting creative with TonicBars

June 10, 2011 Comments off

TonicBars is a wonderful plugin for Lord of the Rings Online. I have recently been making full use of it on all of my characters. When it comes to things as simple as travel or as complicated as mid-fight weapon-swapping, it makes my life so much easier.

TonicBars is available here.

The plugin basically consists of two parts. The first is the quickslots, which are the foundation of TonicBars, and the second is extensions, which are branched out off of quickslots. Both quickslots and extensions are able to be set up exactly as you prefer: if you want 20 slots, then you can make 20 slots. You want a constant row of food vertical, then a mouse-over to pop out horizontal rows of various types? Done. Read more…

Isengard Pre-order comparison and comments

So the new expansion has an official release date: September 27th, 2011!

This is smack dab in the middle of a testing time for most semesters, so we will see how much my grades suffer…*cough* I mean, there is unfortunately a chance I may not be able to partake in the fun…or I might have a sudden onset of MacGregor’s Syndrome, but it will luckily be only in Phase 1, which I hear is curable with an antidote created by Victor Fries, M.D. Unfortunately, it will probably take, oh, at least two weeks for it to ship from Amazon. That should be sufficient for me to get my hunter and warden to 75…

Anyway, there is a set of three pre-orders available for purchase. They all grant access to the expansion, of course, but there are special goodies available immediately that are worth looking at. I still regret not pre-ordering Mirkwood, as I could’ve saved myself a lot of Turbine Points that I spent on extra character slots so I can have 9 characters. The following is a rundown on the pre-orders and my suggestions: Read more…

Icy Crevasse – Tips and Tricks

June 6, 2011 Comments off

I was very excited when I saw there would be a Forochel skirmish. First off, I was thrilled that I finally had another way to earn reputation with the Lossoth, which have an incredibly long grind. Secondly, I just love Forochel. It is one of the most beautiful and deadly places in Middle-Earth.

I tried it out on Bullroarer with my level 65 Hunter, Geldarion, first. I have since tried it with most of my characters that are the appropriate level. I usually run with an on-level soldier, and I would highly recommend that, because this is undoubtedly the hardest skirmish there is.

I would like to give a few tips on completing this skirmish, since it is so difficult. This is not too detailed, and I am sure that Pineleaf Needles at Casual Stroll to Mordor will have a complete guide eventually, but this is to tide people over for the time being. You should definitely check out his posts, as they are the best I’ve ever seen on skirmishes.

Here is how to win (or in this case, not die)! Read more…

1-65 Speedy Soloing Leveling Guide

June 4, 2011 Comments off

This is just a updated leveling guide that takes into account the Evendim Revamp, as well as the solofication of Vol. II. It is from the perspective of a player who is primarily solo and wants to move as quickly as possible through the levels. My captain is the one that most recently went through this, but I have done the Moria part just about the same exact way with my hunter, warden, champ, and lore-master as well. Enjoy, good leveling, and farad vaer.
