Greetings from Chipchops or, “Once you pop…”

My name, for all intents and purposes, is inconsequential. You may refer to me, however, as Chipchops. [NOTE FROM EDITOR: Chipchops now goes by Rhekk] My pseudonym, as opposed to my wonderful friends Geldarion and Torvox, is more of a personal nickname rather than my gamer/lore name. Despite that, it serves its purpose as good as any other. Now on to a bit about me. Something you may find of me is that I love words. So to say this is “a bit” is only based on my own standards. Also, to say that I hope you will enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it will probably be inaccurate, but I hope you will enjoy this article regardless. Read more…

Almost there! Guild and server information!

Getting thawed for SWTOR!

Early access for Star Wars: The Old Republic starts tomorrow! I don’t know if I will be getting in immediately, since though I ordered the game the day it was available, I did it on my iPhone, and so I did not see the part that said I needed to register my code until sometime in August. Read the fine print, people!

My guild, Southern Cross, has been placed on a PvE West server, Lord Praven. These are some of the same people that were on Vilya in LOTRO, so I already know that they will be extremely helpful and awesome. I am very glad some of them are coming, and we get to keep the same Ventrilo, so we will still be in touch with our kinmates still in LOTRO.

Any readers that were placed on Lord Praven?

A comment reply to Lanir

Lanir posted a comment on my other post here. I wanted to respond to him and his “wall ‘o text” (as he put it), but I ended up writing a post-length response, and it just got out of hand haha. I created my own “wall ‘o text.” Oh well!

His comment is in boldface, and my responses are in regular type.

Note: I took the important things that I wanted to respond to from his comment, simply for space reasons, but I do not believe I left anything out that will change his meaning.

“I’m going to try something a bit different and go for a semi-reasonable conversation.”

A welcome relief 🙂

“From an outside perspective, I think the blog post here is really just a statement of beliefs.”

This is true. Specifically, it outlines my description of Jesus, who he was technically and who he is to me today.

“The replies seem to me to be consistent with that viewpoint as they largely don’t speak say much about anything brought up in the blog entry but talk about Christianity in general.” Read more…

Beginner’s Guide: The Odd Man Out – Support Classes

December 10, 2011 Comments off

Which one does not belong in the Trinity of kittens?

Most of you now know about the MMO Trinity, which is Tank, Healer, and DPS classes (if you don’t click here, here, and here, respectively)

There is another type of class that has seen very wide use, and that is the class role of Support. Technically, Healers fall under the umbrella of “Support,” but I am going to talk about the classes that aren’t really Tanks, Healers, or DPS, but fall under a special sub-category all of their own.

Support classes are usually good for buffing, debuffing, utility skills like cures, off-healing, and power-healing. My ideal group in LOTRO for example has two Healers (one of which can be a Support class), one Tank, one other Support specifically for that purpose, and two DPS. For easier content, one healer can be swapped out for DPS. But what does a Support class actually bring to the table? Read more…

Beginner’s Guide: The MMO Trinity – Healer

December 9, 2011 2 comments

Most of you probably know about the MMO Trinity, which is Tank, Healer, and DPS (Damage Per Second). However, with this blog swinging towards a new MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, some people may be looking around for information on classes and not know what they are looking at when it comes to their class role. So I have decided to take it upon myself to explain the MMO Trinity as if my audience has never heard of it.

Hate it or love it, most MMOs are built with the idea that there will be someone to take the big hits, someone to heal back up the big hits, and someone to dish out the big hits. That is just a fact of life. There have been other class roles defined by different games, such as Pullers, Support, and Chippers (only know this last one from Rappelz, was kinda like Debuffer). Support is the only class-role besides the Trinity that has seen wide usage.

Healers are the most in-demand class role around, and good healers are worth their weight in gold. Healers are responsible for keeping everyone in the group alive. Being a healer means that boss-fights aren’t that memorable, since most of your time is spent watching green health bars. It has been described as “reverse whack-a-mole with the green bar.” You see things go down, you turn them around. Read more…
