Chipchops’ Photojournal…The First Six Months or So

June 26, 2012 Comments off

In response to Geldarion posting a photojournal, decided to set out to do one as well, considering how I have not posted much since beta. As real life and the balancing of the joys of SWTOR go, I have been quite busy. Also, it may not show the progression I would have liked due having played on 3 computers, one awaiting respawn…but here is quite a spread nonetheless. Hope you enjoy most of my first 6 months of SWTOR as seen here. Read more…

Quest Advice: The Lightspring *SPOILERS*

January 2, 2012 9 comments

**NOTE: SPOILERS ARE PRESENT THROUGH THIS ENTIRE ARTICLE. IF YOU ARE A SMUGGLER THAT DOES NOT WANT ANY STORY SPOILED, DO NOT READ THIS ARTICLE!!**

Any Smuggler going through their class story will eventually get to the quest called The Lightspring. This quest is the hardest one I saw up to this point and since (I’m level 34 now).

This quest is the last big one on Tatooine, and it is level 27. When I tried it, I was level 29. I died 10 times, and I’m not exaggerating. It took 11 tries for me to defeat this. I was just so close when I was trying different strategies that I would do it twice or three times with that strategy before I changed. Silly me and my belligerence. Read more…

Beginner’s Guide: The Odd Man Out – Support Classes

December 10, 2011 Comments off

Which one does not belong in the Trinity of kittens?

Most of you now know about the MMO Trinity, which is Tank, Healer, and DPS classes (if you don’t click here, here, and here, respectively)

There is another type of class that has seen very wide use, and that is the class role of Support. Technically, Healers fall under the umbrella of “Support,” but I am going to talk about the classes that aren’t really Tanks, Healers, or DPS, but fall under a special sub-category all of their own.

Support classes are usually good for buffing, debuffing, utility skills like cures, off-healing, and power-healing. My ideal group in LOTRO for example has two Healers (one of which can be a Support class), one Tank, one other Support specifically for that purpose, and two DPS. For easier content, one healer can be swapped out for DPS. But what does a Support class actually bring to the table? Read more…

Beginner’s Guide: The MMO Trinity – Healer

December 9, 2011 2 comments

Most of you probably know about the MMO Trinity, which is Tank, Healer, and DPS (Damage Per Second). However, with this blog swinging towards a new MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, some people may be looking around for information on classes and not know what they are looking at when it comes to their class role. So I have decided to take it upon myself to explain the MMO Trinity as if my audience has never heard of it.

Hate it or love it, most MMOs are built with the idea that there will be someone to take the big hits, someone to heal back up the big hits, and someone to dish out the big hits. That is just a fact of life. There have been other class roles defined by different games, such as Pullers, Support, and Chippers (only know this last one from Rappelz, was kinda like Debuffer). Support is the only class-role besides the Trinity that has seen wide usage.

Healers are the most in-demand class role around, and good healers are worth their weight in gold. Healers are responsible for keeping everyone in the group alive. Being a healer means that boss-fights aren’t that memorable, since most of your time is spent watching green health bars. It has been described as “reverse whack-a-mole with the green bar.” You see things go down, you turn them around. Read more…

A SWTOR Beta Top 4: Things To Know About The Smuggler Class

December 3, 2011 3 comments

There are so many wonderful features of Star Wars: The Old Republic. I got the immense pleasure of playing the Beta this last weekend, and I want to share some screenshots and opinions. I will be putting out a series of posts with the Top 4s of the many things I got to try, including the classes, the PvP, the systems, and the experience in general.

Here it is folks, the number one class I am looking forward to playing. This snappy-talking, lady-wooing, sharp-shooting, space-cowboy is the coolest dude since Han Solo himself walked the silver screen. I will probably eventually roll two of these so I can play both advanced classes. I am very partial to the Gunslinger currently, and I was able to get one to level 18 in the Beta before the server logged me off.

Here are the top 4 things to know about the Smuggler class in SWTOR! Read more…
