Rise of Isengard photo-journal and tips
My Captain, Ardaheru, hit 75 Monday night! I was 8th in Southern Cross to do it. It was a very interesting experience, and I wanted to share with you some screenshots and advice for a smooth experience.
Fun Moments
- I found that wargs in Dunland are very well behaved.

- My first glimpse of Saruman was a “jump-up-and-down-with-joy moment.” Somehow, I missed this quest in the Beta, which I am glad about, because I got experience it for the first time “for real.”
- Here is the quest I was referring to in this post about humor and engagement in the Epic story in Dunland.
- When we come across the Riders of Rohan for the first time: another “jump-up-and-down-with-joy moment.” Théoden’s son!!!!! Read more…
Deed with purpose!
Every MMO has something that you have to grind. Armor and weapons are a huge grind in most games, and here in LOTRO there is some grinding for weapons and armor, but the main grind is deeds.
Deeds grant a number of things that are useful in game, such as Virtues, Turbine Points, Titles, and Reputation with various groups in Middle-Earth. Not everyone enjoys grinding deeds, but everyone appreciates the rewards.
For now, I will discuss deeding for Virtues and how to maximize your time when doing so.
Come here, my pet!
I love pets. I really do. I enjoy skirmishes simply because, if nothing else, my non-pet-class characters can enjoy the benefits of leading a two man army (including themselves).
Pets are an integral part of the playstyle that comes with Lore-masters and Captains. Some people like this aspect of these classes, some people don’t. I know a lot of people play Captains without using a herald, opting instead to use a banner. I know Lore-masters that only have a raven out for the shadow mitigation, and they might keep it alive for flanks.
While these aren’t necessarily bad playstyles, I’m going to assume that the readers of this post aren’t like this. I’m going to assume that you want to learn how to use your pet effectively. I’m going to assume that you want to get the most out of this aspect of the class you have chosen to play, i.e. Lore-master or Captain. Read more…
How to Harness the HUD, Part 2
This is the second installment of How to Harness the HUD. Today’s topic is the Quickslots and Social Options.
This will not cover keybinding the quickslots; that will follow in a later post.
Quickslots
The quickslots page is primarily dedicated to display and placement of quickslot bars. Let’s talk about the quickslot bars first.
There are six quickslot bars, each with 12 slots. These bars are for the purpose of holding skills and items for ease of use, especially in combat. Each bar is completely keybindable, and all of the bars except for the main bar have individual options for hiding them, docking them, and positioning them. Read more…
How to Harness the HUD, Part 1
Sometimes when a new player logs in to a game, they just stand there in confusion with all of the many buttons!!! You have the general health bar, power bar, skill bar, inventory bags, etc. that are present in every combat/exploring game. Then you have a slough of options to wade through as you make seemingly unimportant decisions about whether you automatically loot all, or have trivial quest icons shown, or have static tooltips, or even have tooltips at all.
