A SWTOR Beta Top 4: Things To Know About The Game

November 30, 2011 2 comments

There are so many wonderful features of Star Wars: The Old Republic. I got the immense pleasure of playing the Beta this last weekend, and I want to share some screenshots and opinions. I will be putting out a series of posts with the Top 4s of the many things I got to try, including the classes, the PvP, the systems, and the experience in general.

I think this may be one of the best games I’ve ever played. The character progression, the stories, the class-design, and the PvP are all extraordinary. Everything is pretty polished, and the details are pretty close to being ironed out. I am going to enjoy putting out these posts.

Dunland’s quests: Why humor and engagement are important

Now that the NDA has been lifted, I can post this look at the new quests that will be coming in Isengard (don’t worry, not spoilers!).

I think the main thing I was disappointed in was the lack of instances below raid size. I am like many others in that I am casual and often don’t have time to raid. That doesn’t mean I don’t have 2 hours at a time, I often do. It means I don’t have a set time to play like others in my kin, so getting 24 people together is not really possible sometimes.

I love 3-mans especially, because it encourages quick thinking, especially with unusual group makeups. The lack of 3- and 6-man instances this go around is disappointing. But never fear! They will be coming soon!

So to bide my time in the Beta, I leveled a Hunter and Captain through the quests in Dunland. Questing is always something I enjoy, as it is like playing a game attached to a really good book.

In the past I have felt the “kill 10 rats” syndrome of “this is really not epic.” You know, like picking up poop in Enedwaith. I was thinking the whole time “I have fought the Nazgul in Dol Guldur, why am I picking up POOP?!?!?” Read more…

E3 Interview on PC Gamer

Today there was more news of the Isengard expansion, and I am getting really excited! It was a preview released on PC Gamer by a guy called Josh Augustine. I would like to add my comments to a few selected sentences.

1. “Let’s get my personal favorite news out of the way first: with Rise of Isengard, Monster Play will finally be free-to-play for everyone, instead of reserved exclusviely [sic] for subscribers.”

I’m glad that this is going to happen, as it might revitalize PvMP, and with all of the changes in PvMP, we might actually have a flourishing community in the Moors! Read more…
